While Dr. Hale no longer comes to Highlands, he remains a member of the medical staff of Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. He received his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University and his doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, IL. He underwent his residency in podiatric surgery at Mountain Home Veterans Medical Center, Johnson City Medical Center and Johnson City Specialty Hospital, all in Johnson City, TN.

He is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is also certified in the treatment of diabetic wounds.
