Hospice
Highlands-Cashiers Hospital provides a special kind of compassionate,
home-focused care to terminally ill residents of southern Macon and
Jackson counties.
With a
specially trained team of care givers comprised of nurses, physicians,
social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, chaplains, and numerous
volunteers, Highlands-Cashiers Hospital strives to honor the personal
choices of its patients while treating the physical, emotional and
spiritual needs of the dying and their families.
Hospice
concentrates on making patients as free and as comfortable as possible
while maintaining their dignity and inner peace. A primary goal of the
program is to allow patients to remain among their loved ones as they
are cared for each day.
Hospice
services are available to anyone with a life expectancy of six months
or less, regardless of the nature of the illness. Patients do not
necessarily need to be referred by a physician, but they must meet set
Hospice guidelines. The individual's own physician can work with our
program's medical director to develop and implement the appropriate
plan of care.
The
program also offers family support and bereavement counseling
including support after a patient's death.
